As a young child, I remember playing at my Grandfathers feet while he conducted business by telephone. Handgun on a tray near his feet.
When he finished one particular argumentative call he seemed quite upset. I asked him, Why don’t you fire that man? He said, whatever for?
“In my experience, the best way to learn and to grow is to expose yourself to ideas and people you disagree with.”
I’ve never forgotten this sentiment. It’s been a feature of every team, company, board, or friendship.
